The Spider's Subtle Web

The spider’s subtle web.

Only the width of a thread from a spider’s web between

black and white,

wrong and right,

hidden and revealed.

Beware of the wingless one that weaves a net for all who fly.

Escape the strangling of your soul…

Find the brilliant whiteness of truth.

We’re really not that different

I laugh,I am my own woman

I love,

I try,

I hurt,

I need,

I fear,

I cry

And I know you do the same things too…

So we’re not really that different, me and you…

And I was free

Miriam

I was adored by many for promises of pleasure.

But He judged me not.

He laid shame upon those who have had me shamed.

And He bade me go my way.

After that all the tasteless fruit of life turned sweet to my mouth,

and the scentless blossoms breathed fragrance into my nostrils.

I became a woman without a tainted memory

and I was free.

The words of this poem and the photo were inspired by a piece written by Kahlil Gibran called ‘Joanna the wife of Herod’s Steward’. She was considered a prostitute and was publicly humiliated by the Sadducees.

I wanted to create an image that illustrated the essence of this woman world. The words in the image portrays the many places men came from to enjoy the pleasures she offered. But somehow there is a subtle shyness in her posture with a light enveloping to illustrate the freedom in the forgiveness she received.

Then He looked at me, and the noontide of His eyes was upon me, and He said:

” You have many lovers,

and yet I alone love you.

Other men love themselves in your nearness.

I love you in your self.

Other men see a beauty in you that shall fade away sooner than their own years.

But I see in you a beauty that shall not fade away,

and in the autumn of your days that beauty shall not be afraid to gaze at itself in the mirror,

and it shall not be offended.

I alone love the unseen in you.”
