Settle down. Relax.

It has nothing to do with war, the army, Hitler or any of that senseless nonsense.

It is an acronym which opened a window for me to understanding someone I love better. Someone described as having an ANGRY PERSONALITY.

These, I have learned, are all emotional triggers which with the slightest nudge prompt the angry personality into “exploding” or throwing a tantrum… to use a more accurate description.

These triggers overwhelm him into losing control over the irrational impulse to hurt someone or something who at that moment might be the unfortunate one to be in the way when lightning strikes.

Yes, he should learn techniques to control his emotions and actions.

Yes, he should be in anger management.

Yes, he should be in therapy.

Yes, he should pull himself together.

Yes, I don’t have to cope with it.

But at least HALT helps to identify potential threats, to distance myself from the tantrum, not to think this is all my fault.

How many colours in your day?

“People observe the colours of a day only at its beginnings and ends,
but to me it’s quite clear that a day merges through a multitude of shades and intonations, with each passing moment.
A single hour can consist of thousands of different colours.
Waxy yellows, cloud-spat blues. Murky darknesses.
I make it a point to notice them.”

Lost in Lavender

The air was fragrant with a thousand trodden aromatic herbs, with fields of lavender, and with the brightest roses blushing in tufts all over the meadows. . . .” ~ William Cullen Bryant (1794 – 1878)

Dancing with the daffodils

I took a close-up shot of a daffodil, a gift from my mother’s garden, played around with editing options and these three images are the result.

Which one is your favourite?

For me, images and words go hand in hand… this beautiful poem by William Wordsworth came to mind.

“For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.”

-William Wordsworth ( English Romantic poet 1770-1850)
